Week 2
This week in ICT we learnt about the internet and the world wide web. I visited a site called “how stuff works” http://www.howstuffworks.com/web-server.htm to get a more in-depth understanding of this.
On this site I learnt about IP addresses, protocols and clients and servers. Admittedly, prior to the lesson most of these words were simply useless jargon to me – now I understand the basic process behind internet connections and networks.
Learning about the WWW is very useful; especially as in my future as a teacher I will be quite dependent on the internet for things such as lesson preparations and online activities to assist in my teaching.

Week 1, Portfolio Item #1:Personal Competency Test
Today i completed a personal competency test on ICT. This test showed my strengths ans weaknesses in terms of my computer skills. It revealed that I am competent in word processing, emails, powerpoint and file management. The test also showed my areas of weakness – areas i’m hoping to improve on. These were desktop publishing, digital video, graphic organisers and other multi-media projects. These weaknesses are mainly due to having had no experience in undertaking these tasks, so I hope to change that in this course, and in turn, utilise these skills proficiently to assist me in my future profession as a teacher.
